Completing a Snug application typically takes 15-30 minutes, depending on whether you have the necessary information readily available. Providing details for ID, income/affordability, and address history is essential.

Steps to Complete Your Snug Application
1. Create your Snug Profile
Each applicant in the household needs their own Snug profile. Required details:
- Full name (matching identity documents)
- Mobile number (Australian numbers only)
- Email address
2. Start an Application
You can start an application in two ways:
- Via Agent’s Apply Link: Click the link provided by the agent/manager or found on the property listing if they use Snug.

Using Apply Anywhere:
- Visit Snug.com and create/log in to your profile.
- Go to your Snug dashboard and select ‘Apply Anywhere’.
- Alternatively, enter the property address in the search bar to begin.
3. Your Rental Preferences
This section requires:
- Desired lease term
- Preferred start date
- Offered rent amount
- Household details (number of occupants, etc.)
- ‘About us’ section (a chance to introduce yourself to the owner).
4. Address History
Provide details for current and previous addresses. Snug will contact referees with your consent.
- Address details
- Living arrangement (e.g., rented, sublet, boarded)
- Dates of residency and reason for leaving
- Property manager/agent contact details for references
- Required Document: Rental Ledger (upload if available)
5. Employment History
Detail your employment status and history for affordability assessment. Snug will contact referees with your consent.
- Employment status (employed, self-employed, student, etc.)
- Current/recent employer details
- Job title and type (full-time, part-time, casual)
- Start and end dates
- Income details
- Employer contact details for references
6. Income Assessment
Provide proof of your ability to pay rent.
- Payslips: At least three recent payslips recommended (include previous job if recently changed).
- Bank Statements: Recent statements showing savings and rent payment history recommended.
- Centrelink/Government Benefits Statement: If applicable.
- Other Income: Statements for any other income sources.
7. Identity Documents (100 Point Check)
Provide documents totalling at least 100 points. See 100 Point Check for Proof of Identity for details.
- Requirement: Must include at least one Primary ID (Australian Driver Licence or Passport).
- Upload supporting secondary ID documents to reach 100 points.
- Note: A green tick appears next to ID when a valid Passport or Driver Licence is added.
8. Background Check* (Optional)
You can optionally purchase an instant Background Check report via Snug (powered by Equifax NTD and DVS).
- The report is downloadable and valid for 6 months.
- You control whether to attach it to your profile/application.
- Snug generates an instant report using the Equifax National Tenancy Database (NTD), including the Australian Government's Document Verification Service (DVS) to confirm your identity, tenancy database (blacklist), company directorships, court debt and bankruptcy records. - State Restrictions: Some States in Australia have imposed restrictions on selling the Background Check service directly to consumers who are seeking rental properties within that State or if residing in that State. This means you may not be presented with the option to purchase a Background Check report based on your Current Address or the application property address. How to get the check (if available):
- Enter your Identity document details in the application.
- Follow prompts to purchase the instant report.
- Choose whether to attach the results to your application.
Note: Renters can request a free National Tenancy Database report directly from Equifax twice yearly.
9. Pet Details
If applying with pets, provide details to improve your application’s chances.
- Pet’s name, breed, and age
- Microchip and registration numbers
- Pet photo
- Pet reference (if available, from a previous property manager).
10. Supporting Documents
Attach additional relevant documents. Examples:
- Proof of property ownership (e.g., Council Rates Notice)
- Self-employment proof (e.g., Letter from Accountant, Financial Statements)
- Cover letter
- Rental ledger from previous property (if not provided in Address History)
11. Personal Reference
Provide personal references, especially if you have limited address or employment history.
- Choose referees with standing in the community or business if possible.
- Parental references may be suitable if accompanied by a lease guarantee.
12. Student Details
If applicable, provide education details.
- Place of study
- Course details
- Enrolment number
- Campus contact details
- Image of Student ID
- Image of Letter of Offer
13. Next of Kin / Emergency Contact
Add details for your closest living relative (Next of Kin) and one Emergency Contact.
Review & Submit Application
- Thoroughly review your entire application for accuracy.
- Ensure all reference details and documents are correct.
- Review and tick the disclosure authorities at the end.
- Click Submit.
After Submission
- Notifications: Snug sends email and SMS updates on your application’s progress.
- Reuse Profile: Your completed Snug profile can be easily reused for future applications, allowing you to update details as needed.
